Athlete Focus
USA Triathlon supports its athletes through its Clubs, Age Group Commissions, and National Teams Program, which provides the best of the best with training and coaching opportunities and elite camps and clinics. It has also developed a program to identify top junior athletes and get them on the road to pro/elite status.
USA Triathlon strives to foster the growth and development of triathlon for youth, junior, and collegiate triathletes, and to enhance the opportunities for young triathletes to train and compete in triathlon across the United States.
Athlete Profiler
The Athlete Profiler is a virtual "athletic resume" for athletes who desire to be part of USA Triathlon's elite and development programs. The Athlete Profiler has been created to help our athletes keep USA Triathlon staff coaches up to date on current contact information, personal-best times and race performances.

The primary objective of the National Teams Program is to provide an administrative, performance, and financial support structure to assist athletes in achieving optimal results at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, and ITU World Championships.

Team USA
Team USA was created by USA Triathlon to be a team of age group/amateurs who will best represent the United States and compete in the International Triathlon Union’s (ITU) world championships, which attracts the best athletes representing over 50 countries each year.

Under 23
Every year USA Triathlon qualifies a group of elite triathletes aged 18-23 who will compete at the ITU Under 23 (U23) World Championships. U23 athletes also have access to a number of performance enhancement opportunities and can become members of the National Elite Development Team.

USA Triathlon is actively involved in the development of multisport on the college level. USAT owns and operates a collegiate national championship, supports the growth of collegiate clubs, and also offers training and education for college athletes interested in joining the National Team program.

USA Triathlon coordinates a variety of age-appropriate, developmental competition formats for junior athletes. These include national championships, world championship team qualifiers, and regional, national and international competitions. In addition, working with our Regional Athlete Development Coordinators, USAT helps to promote entry-level junior events within each of its ten regions.

Age Groupers
"Age Grouper" is just another way to say "amateur." Anyone who does not have a pro/elite license is considered an age grouper and they race in events according to age groups, typically separated in five-year increments.
