COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — More than 50 clubs and about 1,500 triathletes will compete Saturday at USA Triathlon’s Club and Halfmax National Championships in Boulder City, Nev., just outside Las Vegas.

Eleven clubs will be eligible to earn points toward the USA Triathlon Club National Championship. Members from other clubs will compete for age group awards.

Championship day will feature three events, all of which are eligible to count toward the Club National Championship. Competitors have the option to race in the Pumpkinman Triathlon (sprint or Olympic distance) or the Halfmax National Championship (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run). The Pumpkinman sprint race features a 0.75k swim, 20k bike and 5k run. This event features a three-way partnership of Ultramax Events, BBSC Endurance Sports and USA Triathlon.

“It is great to see the excitement and anticipation for this event continue to grow each year,” said USAT National Events Director Jeff Dyrek. “This year is the largest participation USAT has seen at this national championship, and what’s even greater to see is how our membership has embraced the format and spirit of competition toward each other.”

The challenging course features a swim in Lake Mead, one of the largest man-made lakes, a scenic bike route surrounded by rock canyons and a run course that ventures into Boulder City via a long climb on Nevada Way Road.

The 2008 USA Triathlon Halfmax National Championship will serve as one of three qualifiers for the World Championship and will feature a minimum of 10 slots per age group for Team USA and the 2009 Long Course Triathlon World Championship.
