My Power Within Statement – triathlon’s unique contribution to your life.

Endurance sports, especially long-distance triathlons and training allows me to drop my “social guard,” thus giving me the freedom to be introspective, and think for myself. Once I began to venture into this territory, the comfort about being alone increased. I’ve begun to crave for the time I spend by myself, in the pool, on the bike, and during a run.

The Conversation: Performance Anxiety in relation to Social Status

If you were in solitary confinement, what would have been thinking all day? Following your best sports performance, would you be able to NOT share it with the world? NOT to earn the enthusiasm of everyone? What do these have to do with performance and social anxiety? This lecture shares unique insights of teenagers’ behaviors in both a Juvenile Detention Center and top Paralympic sports moments using the perspective of the Self Psychology psychoanalytic theory (Heinz Kohut). It is a thinking workshop that teaches basic emotional therapeutic tools for coaches to utilize with all level of athletes. Be ready to face confronting questions you must ask yourself about your failures and successes.
