by USA Triathlon

TOWNSVILLE, Aus. - More than 350 age group Team USA athletes will represent the U.S. in the land down under Aug. 15-24 for the World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Townsville, Australia. The event celebrates multisport and features 19 World Championship races across five levels of athletes including Age Group, Paratriathletes, Junior, Under 23 and Elites.

Of the 19 races, eight are World Championship events - Duathlon Sprint, Duathlon Standard, Mixed Relay, Cross Triathlon, Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Long Distance Triathlon and Aquabike. The 12-day competition will be action-packed, complete with an Opening Ceremony, Parade of Nations and Closing Ceremony party.

“Townsville is not only an amazingly beautiful city, but the weather is about as good as anything you will find around the world – 80 degrees for a high and 65 for a low with modest humidity,” described Tim Yount, Chief Sport Development Officer. “We are so fortunate that over 350 U.S. athletes from more than 25 states will be able to experience this amazing venue for the next two weeks. Athletes are ready. USA Triathlon is ready.”

"We are so excited to watch our Age Group Team USA athletes compete in Australia this week,” said Age Group Team USA Coordinator, Hans Ernst. “Our Team USA athletes are some of the most dedicated, competitive athletes and we are eager to watch them perform on a world stage.”

Among the U.S. athletes competing include Scott Croner (Papillion, Neb.), Larry Nelson (Hixson, Tenn.) and Michael Felicissimo (Thornton, Colo.), who are all attempting to become a World Triathlon “Multisport Legend.” The proud title is earned by racing and completing five or more World Championships races at the Multisport World Championships.
