USA Triathlon invites eligible members to run for an elected position as an Athlete Director on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors, and/or as an Athlete Representative on the USA Triathlon Athletes’ Advisory Council. The USA Triathlon Board of Directors helps set the direction of the sport across the country. Get involved today!
Nominations are open as of December 18, 2024 and close on Friday, January 17, 2025. Nomination criteria is listed below — please send all nominations to election@usatriathlon.org.
The positions below are open for nominations in the 2024/2025 Election:
- One (1) Athlete Director on the USAT Board of Directors
- One (1) USAT Athletes’ Advisory Council Member
Election Timeline:
December 18: Call for nominations. Nominations open.
January 17: Deadline to submit nominations.
January 21: Election ballots open.
February 20: Election closes.
March 7: Election results announced
USA Triathlon Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is composed of 12 members who are elected without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or physical disability. Per USA Triathlon Bylaws, four directors are Athlete Directors, four directors are General Directors and four directors are Independent Directors. At least three of the Athlete Directors on the Board shall be Elite 10 Year Athletes as defined in Section 6.8(a) of the USA Triathlon Bylaws. One of the Athlete Directors on the Board may be an Elite 10+ Year Athlete as defined in Section 6.8(b) of the USA Triathlon Bylaws. Athlete Directors shall be elected no less than thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of their term. The Board of Directors shall represent the interests of the triathlon and multisport community for USA Triathlon in the United States and its athletes by providing USA Triathlon with policy, guidance and strategic direction. Typically, meetings are held about four times per year with conference calls scheduled between meetings as needed.
USA Triathlon’s Athletes' Advisory Council
USA Triathlon’s Athletes’ Advisory Council (“AAC”) is a USOPC and USA Triathlon Bylaw-mandated Standing Committee that broadens communication between USA Triathlon and elite athletes, and serves as a source of opinion and advice to the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. The AAC leads, serves, and engages athletes to communicate the interests and protect the rights of athletes, and is a conduit to USA Triathlon. The AAC consists of at least eight individuals, four Athlete Directors, and four Athlete Representatives, and the Team USA Athletes’ Commission Alternate Representative unless they are also an Athlete Representative or Athlete Director.

Candidate Eligibility
Athlete Director: Each Director of the Board must be eligible to be a USA Triathlon member, a citizen of the United States and eighteen (18) years of age or older. A Director shall (i) have the highest personal and professional integrity, (ii) have demonstrated exceptional ability and judgment, and (iii) be effective, in conjunction with the other Directors, in collectively serving the long-term interests of USA Triathlon. Each Director shall have passed a background check, completed SafeSport education and training, and had no record of SafeSport violations. Additionally, candidates for Athlete Director must be an “Elite 10 Year Athlete”. Please see USAT Triathlon Bylaws Sections 6.4 and 6.8 for more detailed information.
USA Triathlon’s Athletes’ Advisory Council: Candidates for the Athletes’ Advisory Council must meet the definition of “Elite 10 Year Athlete” contained in Sections 6.8 and 9.3 of the USA Triathlon Bylaws.
USOPC/Team USA Athletes’ Commission Representative: Candidates for the Team USA Athletes’ Commission Representative must meet the definition of “Elite 10 Year Athlete” contained in Section 6.8 of the USA Triathlon Bylaws.
Voting Eligibility
In this election, to vote for Athlete Director, Team USA Athletes’ Commission, and Athlete Advisory Council positions, an individual must meet the definition of “Elite 10 Year Athlete” contained in Section 6.8 of the USA Triathlon Bylaws.
Petition Criteria
Nominating petitions for Athlete Directors, USOPC/Team USA Athletes’ Commission Representative, and USA Triathlon’s Athlete Advisory Council Positions shall include the following:
- The name, address, contact number, email address, and any annual USA Triathlon membership number of the nominee.
- A written description of the nominee and their platform; the description shall not exceed 500 words.
- A photo of the nominee.
- The nominee’s resume.
- Statement that the nominated individual is a US citizen and over the age of 18 years old.
- A completed USA Triathlon Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form. Candidates must disclose any felony convictions, or any period of ineligibility served in sport such as violations of anti-doping codes, the Athlete Classification Code or SafeSport violations.
Petitions that do not meet the above requirements will not be considered.
