Seely First Paratriathlete to Serve on World Triathlon Executive Board
by USA Triathlon
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Allysa Seely will be the first paratriathlete to serve on the World Triathlon Executive Board after she was elected Vice Chair of the World Triathlon Athletes Committee on Nov. 15, World Triathlon announced.
“I am honored to be entrusted with this responsibility by my fellow athletes,” Seely says. “Being the first-ever paratriathlete to serve on the World Triathlon Executive Board is not something I take lightly. I have been an advocate for both para and able-bodied elite athletes my whole career and I look forward to working in tandem with World Triathlon to continue my goal of making multisport more accessible and equitable at the world level.”
Seely (Glendale, Ariz.), along with Hungarian athlete Tamas Toth who will serve as Chair of the Athletes Committee, were elected in a vote held among the 10 members of the Athletes Committee.
The 10 new members of the Athletes Committee were elected on Nov. 4 and met for the first time on Nov. 15. Since 2019, World Triathlon has two athlete representatives at the Executive Board, with the Constitution stating it has to be one male and one female, and from two different continents.
Seely is the second U.S. representative on the World Triathlon Executive Board as she joins Gabriela Gallegos (El Paso, Texas), who was elected in November 2020. The United States and Spain are the only countries with two representatives on the World Triathlon Executive Board.
The United States’ eight World Triathlon representatives – the most of any nation – are committed to a platform of “Service Through Leadership” by helping to grow the sport around the world, while using the resources afforded to USA Triathlon and the U.S. multisport community to support fellow nations and member federations within World Triathlon.
