U.S. Elite Paratriathletes to Race WTPS Montreal This Weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Paris 2024 Paralympic Qualification period kicks off this Saturday as 18 U.S. elite paratriathletes will compete in Montreal, Canada, at the 2023 World Triathlon Para Series Montreal. 

The World Triathlon Para Series (WTPS) race in Montreal is the third of four stops on the Para Series before September’s Championship Finals in Pontevedra. Saturday's race will unfold on Montreal’s famed Gilles Villeneuve Formula 1 track as athletes race for crucial Paralympic qualifying points ahead of next year’s Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. 

WHO IS RACING 

Tokyo 2020 Paralympians Grace Norman (Jamestown, Ohio), Kendall Gretsch (Downers Grove, Ill., PTWC), Hailey Danz (Colorado Springs, Colo., PTS2), Melissa Stockwell (Colorado Springs, Colo., PTS2), Chris Hammer (PTS5, Gilbert, Ariz.), Eric McElvenny (Pittsburgh, Pa., PTS4), Kyle Coon (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kelly Elmlinger (San Antonio, Texas, PTS4) lead the U.S. elite paratriathlon squad competing in Montreal. 

Fellow U.S. Elite Paratriathlon National Team members racing in Montreal include Howie Sanborn (Denver, Colo., PTWC), Mohamed Lahna (Elk Grove, Calif., PTS2), Carson Clough (Charlotte, N.C., PTS4) and Project Podium’s Owen Cravens (Chicago, Ill., PTVI), who is guided by pro triathlete Ben Hoffman.

This winter, Cravens joined the elite development squad based in Tempe, Arizona, joining three-time Paralympian Hammer as the squad’s first two paratriathletes.
