COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon and the USA Triathlon Foundation today announced a new annual award, THE ALEXANDER Award, which recognizes and honors a women’s NCAA collegiate triathlete for their athletic and academic achievements.

THE ALEXANDER is funded by the TriDave Legacy Trust, which was founded by the award’s namesake, longtime and prolific triathlete Dave Alexander who raced in over 300 triathlons and multisport races all over the world. After launching the USA Triathlon Kids Tri program in Phoenix on April 19, 2024, the TriDave Legacy Trust cumulatively gifted $2,350,000 — the largest gift in the history of the USA Triathlon Foundation — to support women’s collegiate triathlon becoming an official NCAA Championship sport and supporting women’s collegiate NCAA triathlons in perpetuity.

THE ALEXANDER will honor an outstanding individual who excels not only on the triathlon racecourse but also demonstrates exemplary achievements in academics and community service. Annually, THE ALEXANDER Award will be presented at the USA Triathlon Foundation Gala. This year’s USA Triathlon Foundation Gala presented by TicketSocket is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, at historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, held in conjunction with the 2024 USA Triathlon Olympic and Sprint Distance National Championships.

“The TriDave Legacy Trust is transforming the future of the sport of triathlon with its deeply generous and intensely strategic support of our kids, youth and our NCAA aspirations,” said CEO of USA Triathlon Victoria Brumfield.

“The Trust’s commitment to supporting the work of USA Triathlon Foundation is inspired by the Trust’s Founder, Dave Alexander. Dave has demonstrated by example that triathlon is a sport for everyone and that it helps those who compete to improve their own health and lives while helping to build stronger communities through sport,” said Brent Bowden, Trustee of the TriDave Legacy Trust.

Nominations are open now for THE ALEXANDER. To nominate an NCAA women’s collegiate triathlete, please click here for the nomination form.

Women’s collegiate triathlon is currently an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women, with more than 40 schools across the country offering the sport at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels. After hitting the 40-school mark, women’s collegiate triathlon has met the 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability and success at the NCAA varsity level. Women’s Triathlon now has a few more steps to take on its way to being fully managed by the NCAA as a championship event, including committee, council, divisional and budget approvals.
