2025 USA Triathlon National Championships Kick Off in Breckenridge this Weekend for Winter National Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Triathlon Winter Triathlon and Duathlon National Championships will kick off the 2025 National Championships season in Breckenridge, Colorado, this weekend, Feb. 15-16 at The Breckebeiner.

Coined “Vondt Lite Skirenn” in Norwegian, meaning “Painful Little Ski Race,” The Breckebeiner is organized by the race director of Breck Epic, Mike McCormack. Winter National Championships showcases the unique multisport format that combines running, biking and cross-country skiing.

Winter National Championships will take place at Breckenridge’s Gold Run Nordic Center course, which features over 30,000 acres of world-class groomed cross-country ski trails. The run course will take place on the Silver Star trail route, while the bike will be a loop on the Straights, Dyer and Gold Run trails. The ski course will take place north of the finish line on the Buffalo, Flats and Bronco Dave trail routes. 

The three-day event features six races: 

  • Winter Triathlon National Championships: Sprint (3k run, 5k bike, 5k ski) and Intermediate (6k run, 10k bike, 10k ski) 
  • Winter Duathlon National Championships: Sprint (3k run, 6k ski) and Intermediate (6k run, 12k ski) 
  • Breckebeiner Nordic Marathon and Half Marathon (31k ski and 15.5k ski) 

2024 Winter Triathlon Intermediate Distance age group winners including Luke Herron (Edwards, Colo.), Sarah Peltier (Superior, Colo.), Shane Vetter (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Patricia Smaldone (Portland, Ore.) and Elizabeth Kollar (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will be returning to defend their titles. 

In addition, 2024 Winter Triathlon Sprint-Distance Male Overall winner Peter Valentik (Boulder, Colo.), will be back to defend his title in the sprint triathlon while Winter Duathlon Sprint-Distance Male Overall Winner, Stephen Eles (Boulder, Colo.), will be back to defend his title in the sprint duathlon. 2024 Winter Duathlon Intermediate-Distance Female Overall winner, Dominique Stasulli (Boulder, Colo.) will be back to defend her title. Stasulli and Eles, both accomplished age group duathletes, were named to the 2023 USA Triathlon Duathlon Athletes of the Year list in October. 

Other returning age group winners from 2024 include Kurt Dallow (Silverthorne, Colo.), Barbara Kostner (Lakewood, Colo.), Ruth King (Ambler, Pa.), Gunilla Gard (Kerrville, Texas), Travis Wales (Springville, Calif.), Adam Hodges (Boulder, Colo.), Heather Perkins (Eads, Tenn.), Hans Almekinders (Bend, Ore.), Chirstine Wodke (Milwaukee, Wisc.), Victoria Brumfield (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Jennifer Kron (Washington, D.C.), Mary Alfidi (Akron, Ohio) and Andrea Young (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 

Top finishers in each age group will earn the opportunity to represent Team USA at the 2026 World Triathlon Winter Championships Italy.
