ZOFINGEN, Switzerland – The 2024 World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Duathlon Championships Zofingen took place on Sept. 8, in Zofingen, Switzerland, with age group Team USA athletes racing a 10-kilometer run, 150k bike and a 30k run.
More than 20 U.S. athletes traveled to Switzerland and competed in the event, with three landing on the podium. Mark Furler (Hollis, N.H.), placed third in the M40-44 age group in a time of 7 hours, 1 minutes and 50 seconds. Furler soared through the first 10k, going a sub-40-minute run.
Karoline Muehlfellner (Dunedin, Fla.) placed third in the F40-44 age group, with a time of 8:23:12, marking the fastest 150k bike time of her age group.
Cora Sturzl (Malaga, Wash.) placed second in the F60-64 age group in a time of 10:54:53, sticking close with first place finisher, Pamela Hardy of Great Britain the entire race.
Zofingen is the birthplace of the Long-Distance Duathlon World Championships, hosting the first event in 1989, and in partnership with Swiss Triathlon, will continue to be the home of the iconic event for the next two years.
