by USA Triathlon
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — U.S. Olympic medalists and future stars of the sport are among the notable athletes racing on Friday, March 28 at the 2025 Americas Triathlon Cup Miami, hosted by CLASH Endurance.
2016 Olympic gold medalist Gwen Jorgensen and 2024 Olympic Mixed Relay silver medalist Seth Rider will race the sprint-distance triathlon at Homestead-Miami Speedway, along with U.S. men's and women's stars of the future, including Reese Vannerson, Sullivan Middaugh, Darr Smith, Gina Sereno, Tamara Gorman, Jimena Renata De La Pena Schott, Naomi Ruff and Danielle Orie.
Athletes racing the Americas Triathlon Cup Miami will compete in a draft-legal sprint-distance triathlon comprised of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike and 5k run contained within the Homestead-Miami Speedway. All competitors are chasing valuable ranking points to determine their eligibility to enter the World Triathlon Championship Series events, World Triathlon Cup events and World Triathlon Continental Championship events.
A member of the U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team, Jorgensen started her 2025 season with a 29th-place finish at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi in February. The first U.S. triathlete to win an Olympic gold medal, Jorgensen returned to the sport of triathlon in 2023 after leaving the sport to start a family. A mother of two, Jorgensen won four World Triathlon Cup races during the 2023 season.
Rider makes his 2025 season debut in Miami. A U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member and Paris 2024 Olympian, Rider was a member of the U.S. Mixed Relay team that won silver in Paris last August. A lifelong triathlete, Rider started racing triathlon at 6 years old and came up through USA Triathlon’s Youth and Junior elite triathlon circuit.
Vannerson and Middaugh are members of USA Triathlon's elite development squad Project Podium, which trains up-and-comers and LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls in a group environment in Tempe, Arizona. Vannerson is coming off a win at the 2025 Americas Triathlon Cup La Paz, while Middaugh placed third in the same race. Last October, Vannerson earned silver at the 2024 World Triathlon Junior World Championships.
Sereno, a U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member, Gorman, and Smith are veteran U.S. elites making their 2025 season debuts in Miami.
De La Pena Schott, Ruff and Orie are the up-and-coming U.S. elite women looking to make a statement during the 2025 season.
