RFP Process #
The RFP and Statement of Interest period will be open from April 4 – May 31. All submissions must be submitted electronically through the ‘Apply Today’ link. Once the RFP and Statement of Interest period closes, submissions will be reviewed by USA Triathlon, consisting of 3 – 4 individuals from different areas of the organization. USA Triathlon may reach out to the Race Director to request additional information or detail regarding the submission. For those that only submitted a Statement of InterestUltimately, the final decision will be made by USA Triathlon and the Race Director will be notified by August 15. Upon being notified, contracts will begin to be distributed on August 21 and will be due back to USA Triathlon by September 18. Events included on the 2025 State Championship calendar will be announced in late September.
State Championships#
State Championships are meant to be the highest level of competition below national championships. In 2025, state championships will include Sprint- and Olympic-distance triathlon. Other disciplines including duathlon, aquabike, aquathlon are highly encouraged to offer additional racing opportunities but will not be recognized as State Championships. State championships will also serve as the age group and high school club state championships (all distances) and the high school state championship for high school age group athletes in the sprint triathlon.
- Race Director must produce non-draft sprint and Olympic-distance triathlons at the same event on the same weekend (exceptions will be made if no other options exist in the state)
- Post-race survey distributed by host, including required questions from USAT
- Results of survey to be shared with USAT
- Hosting a duathlon or another discipline as part of the event is preferred, but not required
- A high-school division must be part of the sprint (or super sprint-distance) event
- Must include normal age group divisions, plus Clydesdale, Athena, Non-Binary, High School (Sprint)
- Must host a Splash and Dash Youth event for ages 7 to 15
- Adherence to branding guidelines
- Race Director Certification preferred, but not required
- USAT sanctioned event
- Race must have been sanctioned for the past two years
- All past post-race responsibilities must have been completed within 15 days post-event
- Overall complete and thoroughness of bid submission, including required questions
- On-time bid submission
- Photos and media delivered to USAT by next business day post-event
- 1st - 3rd Place Certificates for triathlon
- High School and Overall Club Champs Banner
- Top 35% (vs. 15%) qualify for USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships, which in turn will provide more incentive for athlete’s to race at the event

- Being a part of the select group of races calling themselves State Championships
USA Triathlon will consider a second year with the same event pending an evaluation to include feedback from athletes and USAT. Host must re-apply for second year and beyond.
