Race Local: USA Triathlon Unveils 2025 State Championships Calendar
by USA Triathlon
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Triathlon today unveiled the dates and locations for the 2025 USA Triathlon State Championships, a calendar of local USA Triathlon sanctioned events across the United States that give athletes around the country the opportunity to race for state titles and qualify for the annual USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships.
USA Triathlon selected the State Championship events after a thorough request for proposal process, partnering with local USA Triathlon Race Directors who produce grassroots events in their communities.
State Championships offer a variety of short-course distances from super-sprint and sprint-distance to Olympic-distance, with some events also featuring formats such as duathlon (run-bike-run). The top athletes per age group will be crowned state champions. No qualification is required to participate in State Championship events.
In addition to racing for state titles, athletes racing at State Championships will have increased odds to qualify for USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic-Distance National Championships, the annual event that requires qualification and brings together the best U.S. age group triathletes in the Sprint- and Olympic-distances. State Championships will qualify the top 35 percent, or top five finishers in their age group (whichever is greater) for the 2025 USA Triathlon Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships. Normal qualification criteria are the top two, or 15 percent of an athlete’s age group (whichever is greater).
Note: California, Florida and Texas include North and South State Championships events.
Those states without a State Championship are combined with a State Championship in an adjoining state.
USA Triathlon is working with local race directors for the location of the North Carolina State Championship, while being sensitive to the significant impact Hurricane Helene had at many of the state's triathlon venues.
